Things to remember

  1. Serve all new foods first thing in the morning when they are most hungry.

  2. Serve small portions,   give 1 to 2 tbsp of chop a day.

  3. Eat with your bird to teach them it is food. They will steal it off your plate if they see you eating fresh veggies.  (they would learn from the flock, Now your the flock/bird parent)

  4. Don't give up! Keep Trying different sizes and combination. Take notes to what each bird eats and doesn't eat.

  5. That help you mix in favorite foods. This will encourage them to try new bits of new things in their bowls.

  6. Make bird bread. You can use a pre-made mix   Harrison's, Top's and BIRDTRICKS have kits for purchase. Remember to add veggies!

  7. Birds love shredding things so if they are being resistant in eating them try using a skewer for them to "play" with their food. They will still ingest some of those juices and might decide they like it. Can do this with various fruits and veggies cut in chunks.

  8. For sick birds or even a bonding treat make a smoothie or juice to share with your bird. (this works well with meds to give by syringe.)

Healthy Hint

Flax seed and chia seeds are great to sprinkle on top of chop for birds new to chop. These are healthy seeds that will encourage them to try the chop and will be good for their feather and skin health.

Picky Bird Mash

When ever we have a difficult bird to transition from seeds to pellet and fresh chop, ( or if bird is sickly) we use this to get them eating. This will make several servings depending on the size of your bird.

1/2 cup steel cut oats cooked (no butter or oils)

1/8 cup of applesauce

1/2 mashed banana

about 4 finely chopped almonds

(if underweight 1 tbsp. of organic peanut or almond butter)

can also be used to administer meds, just mix med in a 1/2 tsp.

tip: almond flour can be used as substitute for traditional flours. Healthier and gives the recipe a more nutty flavor that your birds will like.
