Policies
Applicants be aware the following Pre-Qualifications
Qualifications for Adoption:
1. We will not allow any 2nd party adoptions. (No gifting of adopted parrots)
2. We will not place any adoptive bird for sale at pet store or for breeding purposes.
3. We will not place any adoptive bird at a place of business as a mascot for business.
4. You must be a minimum age of 21 years of age to qualify to adopt any parrot from us. (Must be the head of your household.)
5. You must live within a 100 miles radius of Panama City, Florida to adopt. No Exceptions.
6. Home visits are mandatory for all adoptions. (must meet all children and other pets)
7. Please be aware that there are adoption fees for each parrot. (This is to replenish cost for veterinarian workup by our local avian certified veterinarian so that we may rescue more birds)
8. We will not provide mass photos of adoptive bird through social media or email.
9. Homeownership is preferred but NOT mandatory, a minimum of 1 year at current residence is required. (Letter of approval from landlord if renting)
10. We prefer not to place any medium or large parrot in a home with children under the age of 17.* Some exceptions would be allowed. *Ask us upon applying.
11. Depending on the adoption fee Payment Program may be available . Qualifications will be: A.) Only after: meeting an available parrot and the parrot must like you first. B.) At least one mandatory home visit with home prep list completed. (list will be provided) C.) Then a non-refundable 60% down payment will be accepted. This will reserve you as the adoptive parent of bird for 30days) D.) Balance must be paid within 30 days before placement of any parrot.
12. If you own a Dachshund dog or any Terrier mix dogs, we must meet them prior to any placement. It’s very unlikely that we will place any parrot with one of these breeds of dogs. It is for the safety of the Birds. The only exception would be if the dogs are currently housed with parrots for over 3 years.
13. We expect adoptive parents to provide the same quality care or better than they receive here at Tranquility Manor.
Please understand that most of the birds that come to us have been abused, neglected or have never had medical care and that they will need an enormous amount of patience and tender loving care.
Though you may feel some of our requirements are excessive it is the for the safety and wellbeing of the birds. They are our top priority.
